Safety Tips
Hot Weather Tips:
-Be sure to have plenty of fresh, cool water available for your pet at all times.
-Be sure your pet has plenty of shade if outdoors.
- Be sure your pet is groomed properly to avoid mats and skin problems. The heat and humidity can cause skin irritation.
- Watch light colored pets for sunburn- avoid having them out in the hottest part of the day.
- Watch your pets carefully in hot humid weather for respiratory distress. This is especially true in Brachycephalic breeds (short-nosed breeds like shih-Tzu's, pugs, Persian cats, etc.), older animals, and overweight animals.
- If your pet is a working animal, take it slow. If they are acting tired, allow them to rest as much as needed.
- NEVER leave your pet unattended in a car. The temperature can raise to deadly levels in very short periods of time.
- If your pet has difficulty breathing, seems very lethargic, or shows any unusual symptoms you think could be related to heat stress- call your veterinarian right away
